Affordable properties in Penang

LGE launched PIKOM
GEORGE TOWN: The National ICT Association of Malaysia (Pikom) should look into setting up an IT mall in Penang.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng made the suggestion after Pikom chairman Wei Chuan Beng said Pikom would have its very own IT Mall at Cap Square in Kuala Lumpur in July.
Lim said Pikom should look into establishing such malls outside Kuala Lumpur.
"What better place than Penang to have such a mall as Penang is focusing on science and technology and Bayan Baru and Bayan Lepas will become the hub," he told a press conference after launching Pikom's PC Fair and 25th anniversary at the Komtar Dome yesterday.

Education fair attracts thousands
GEORGE TOWN: The Star Education Fair 2011 at the Penang International Sports Arena (Pisa) received the thumbs up from thousands of visitors impressed with the choices on offer.
The one-stop exhibition, which ended yesterday, featured 252 booths by 120 exhibitors from various local and foreign institutions offering undergraduate, postgraduate, twinning, diploma, certificates and distance learning programmes.
The foreign institutions were from Britain, the US, Australia, Russia, Singapore, Indonesia, India and Switzerland.
The event was attended by Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng yesterday.

RM 1.90 million compensation awarded to Tmn Kota Permai flash flood victims
The long wait is over. After fighting for justice and compensation for nearly three and a half years, the Tmn Kota Permai flash flood victims finally get a nod from JPP and its ministry for whooping compensation worth RM 1.90 million.
Bernard Cheen, the Tmn Kota Permai spokesman said that the victims are satisfied with the amount. He stressed that the amount compensated is to ease the losses the victims incurred for the past few years and no one is making any kind of profit from this settlement.
He praised the continuous effort put up by Tan Teik Cheng, the ex Adun of Padang Lalang and those who have helped to make this possible.

Jade Emperor birthday celebration at Pulau Betong
The Hokkiens and other devotees of the Thni Kong (Jade Emperor) at the little village of Pulau Betong celebrated the deity's birthday on the ninth day of the Chinese New Year.
The village mostly Chinese inshore fishermen families, came all out to celebrate and to offer their prayers last night.
The offerings to the Jade Emperor included roast pork and the must-haves such as ang koo (red tortoise buns), mee koo (red-coloured buns), huat kuih (prosperous cakes), t'ng tak (sugar pagodas) and sugar cane.

Danger lurks at abandon market
The old market located at Balik Pulau, Penang has been the town's icon for decades until the new market complex was build several years ago. The abandon market has been the home to drug addicts who get their daily dosage, according to several shop owners nearby. The premise is dirty and the roof is probably going to collapsed anytime.
MPPP should take immediate steps to prevent people from going through the old market to avoid any mishaps.
