MMC - Gamuda under watchful eyes

The progress of the rail track project by Gamuda will be closely monitored even though the state has lifted the stop work order said Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng.

It lifted the stop-work order on Thursday, the same day it received a guarantee letter from contractor MMC-Gamuda Joint Venture Sdn Bhd, which promised flood-prevention measures and mitigation for flood victims.

Lim had previously said the order had been issued as a preventive measure to ensure Penang did not suffer the same kind of floods as Kedah two weeks ago.

Freaky Foggy Penang

A thick layer of fog covered a big portion of Seberang Prai yesterday morning. The phenomena maybe be contributed by the heavy downpour during the evenings for the past few days.

On the way to work, CJ Jimmy Leow documented the rare event.

Fog forms when a layer of warm, wet air forms close to the ground and another layer of cooler, drier air forms on top of the warmer layer. When the ground begins to cool down, the water droplets in the warm, wet air begin to condense to form fog.

The forgotten

Tucked in between Kampung Malabar and Chulia Street, Penang, one will find a nameless lane where residents had to endure pitiful living conditions. They claimed that no one cares for them including the local council and their landlord. A resident told CJ Jimmy Leow that MPPP has not collect rubbish for the past 5 years... some said the landlord of these row of "huts" do not care less about the deteriorating living conditions.

Penang orders halt to rail track project

The Penang Government has issued a stop-work order on the Electrified Double Track Project (EDTP) from Ipoh to Padang Besar effective immediately.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the pre-emptive move was necessary to prevent major floods on the mainland as both the Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung and Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak had said the recent floods in Kedah were possibly due to the project.

He said the move was necessary to ensure that Penang did not suffer the same fate as Kedah.
